Handsfree
On the first day of spring, two fire trucks roll up to an apartment in Brno. Magdalena Straková had left a cigarette smoldering on the balcony, and before long, flames spread inside. She ends up paying a small fine, but the damage is done. A few plants don’t survive — no more watering, no more repotting, no more fuss. Just two weeks earlier, she’d flooded her neighbors’ apartment. Former neighbors, that is. Now she’s moving into a new flat and filling it with fresh plants. When it comes to greenery, she is completely free to pick what she likes, no questions asked. Handsfree. Let it grow — or die, as it may. After all, a little fire and flood never hurt anyone… right, Magda? Free you hands, and rest will follow! Come on, baby, flood thy fire!
Blending theatre, performance, and live audiovisual elements, the work explores, both gently and boldly, our need to hold on, the art of letting go, and the burdens we carry.
