Through a persistent effort to make things right, the protagonist—against the backdrop of an unfavorable social situation—finds himself face to face with his destiny.
THEME:
A portrayal of the life of an ordinary person.
MAIN IDEA:
A critique of the longing for freedom and naturalness that leads to a struggle to understand the world. A depiction of the futility and absurdity of rebellion against society.

PLOT:
After many years away, he returns home to find her living in an illegitimate relationship. He catches them together, returns to her the satchel she gave him before his departure, and withdraws into himself. In the solitude of nature, memories of their shared childhood resurface, yet he is unable to express emotion. She acts according to her nature, and as a sign of reconciliation, he plants marjoram beneath her window. Evening falls. Their peers mock him, but he lives in his own world. After the death of his parents, he organizes a feast, attended by their daughters. Their fragile sibling bond is put to the test. He realizes he has fallen in love; she resists and breaks a jug. The others approve and agree not to stand in their way. Before all the guests, he praises honesty. A quarrel ensues, but he waits to see if her feelings are real. Redemption comes in autumn, when he tries to save her, and so he departs—with him—to the place where they both came from.
OPENING PERFORMANCE:
Dignified and professional, solemn yet playful, sensitive and engaged, educational and theatrically pure—such was the opening of the Drama Queer festival, directed by the Czech independent experimental performance platform for live art D’epog from Brno.
