SUMMER SCHOOL
STOP AND STARE! The seventh edition of the annual intensive summer workshop, led by the D’Epog ensemble and Finnish performer, musician, choreographer, director, and conceptual artist Pasi Mäkelä.
The workshop traditionally culminates in a collaborative performative intervention with the ensemble and participants, offering a five-day opportunity for personal reflection and exploration of key concepts:
- performer – performance
- body – mind – shifting foundations
- subconscious – dreams – creative abstraction
- presentation – representation
- space – place
Pasi Mäkelä
A member of the Finnish performance groups Reality Research Center (www.todellisuus.fi) and Circus Maximus (www.circusmaximus.fi), Mäkelä will bring his own artistic experience to the five-day workshop, situating it within the broader context of contemporary and historical performance practices, particularly the Situationist International movement and Japanese Butoh dance. The thematic focus will explore the intersections of art and crisis as well as performance and provocation. The concentrated group work is designed as a space for objectifying personal creative approaches and projects through physical exercises, discussions, and analysis of audiovisual materials.
Support
The project was supported by the statutory City of Brno as part of its funding for D’Epog z. s.’s year-round production activities in 2020.
